SEDS TAMU SEDS Rocket Propulsion Lab

Howdy! We are TAMU SEDS Rocket Propulsion Lab (TSRPL), a student-led rocketry team at Texas A&M University dedicated to designing, building, and launching high-performance solid fuel rockets. Our long-term mission is to develop a rocket capable of reaching the Kármán Line—100 km above Earth—while developing our own solid rocket propulsion systems along the way. Through hands-on experience in vehicle design, manufacturing, avionics, propulsion, simulation, testing, and launch operations, TSRPL gives students of all majors and experience levels the opportunity to turn classroom knowledge into real engineering experience. From a blank sheet of paper to the launch pad, our goal is to develop the engineers, leaders, and technologies needed to push student rocketry to the edge of space.

Team Structure

For this 2026-2027 competition cycle, the team will be composed of roughly 20 students and is divided into 3 subteams:

Our Goal

TSRPL’s primary goal is to design, manufacture, and launch a student-developed rocket beyond the Kármán Line. Reaching this objective requires the development of several generations of increasingly capable launch vehicles, with each serving as a platform to validate new designs and technologies. Our work includes structures and aerodynamics, avionics and flight systems, recovery systems, propulsion development, manufacturing, simulation, and ground testing. Alongside vehicle development, TSRPL is working toward the design, mixing, casting, and static-fire testing of our own solid rocket motors. Through incremental testing and flight validation, these systems will ultimately be integrated into a complete space-shot vehicle.

Our Training Team

New members begin their time in TSRPL on a Training Team, where they spend their first several weeks designing, building, and launching a high-powered rocket from scratch. Members gain hands-on experience with CAD, structures, aerodynamics, avionics, recovery systems, simulation, manufacturing, and launch operations while learning the engineering design process used throughout TSRPL. Training Teams provide members with the technical foundation needed to contribute to our larger vehicle and propulsion projects.

Time Commitment

We are holding weekly meetings for:

  • Full Team (2 hours)
  • Each Subteam (1-2 hours)

Taking into account work to be done outside of meetings, we estimate an average weekly time commitment of 5-10 hours. However, this is a flexible number and can be adjusted according to individual / team needs. And of course, as they say, you get out of it what you put into it!

Sponsor Us

If you are interested in supporting TAMU TSRPL, we would love to hear from you! As a first year team, we do not have any existing funding sources, and will need all the help we can get in order to successfully execute our project.

Ways to Support Us

Financial Sponsorship — Direct funding goes toward materials, manufacturing, competition travel, and registration fees for TSRPL

In-Kind Donations — Have hardware, electronics, manufacturing capabilities, or lab access that could help the team? We'd love to talk.

Technical Mentorship — If you have experience in rocketry, systems engineering, or avionics, we're always looking for outside guidance and review.

Spread the Word — Sharing our team with your company, university, or network helps us build the connections a first-year team needs most.

Simply reach out to tamu.seds.cstat@gmail.com and we would be happy to discuss further!
